LAST YEAR'S WINNER

Sherry Petty

About the Winner
Sherry Petty (pictured above with her winning painting) is from Carthage, MO. Her art work entitled "Heritage," was the winner of the $1000 Thomas Hart Benton Award from last spring's THB Mural Design Contest, sponsored by the Newton County Tourism Council andmanaged by Crowder College.

Because of Sherry's actual experience in painting large-scale murals, Crowder commissioned her to paint the mural from her own winning design.

With her winnings and payment for the mural itself, Sherry has realized her life-long dream of having her own art studio, which she put in the back of her property in Carthage.

2006 Festival Photos

In 2006, the Newton County Tourist Council created the Thomas Hart Benton Festival to honor a hometown hero of world renown. The festival included a mural contest and seminar on the artist’s life and work.
