Hornet

The village of Hornet grew up around a stagecoach line which led from Missouri into Southeast Kansas. Like many small communities, Hornet prospered as long as transportation was limited and people did not migrate in search of greater opportunities.

Hornet gained a post office in 1882, but it was closed in 1902. Today the only public building in Hornet is a church. Even though the stage line is gone, travelers still come to Hornet in search of a mystery. The Hornet Spooklight, an eerie unexplained phenomenon, is a well known destination in the world of the unexplained..
