Stark City

Stark City was established in 1912, when a new post office was opened under that name. Prior to 1912, the town was called "Chester." The original town was part of a plan developed by the Monark Townsite Company which promoted the establishment of towns along the Missouri and North Arkansas Railroad.

In that same year (1912), Stark Brothers Nursery Company purchased land between Chester and Newtonia. The company set out hundreds of fruit trees and shrubs for its wholesale and retail markets. This move by a large nursery company was to take advantage of the famous "Newtonia soil." The action by Stark Brothers was the motivation for changing the town's name from Chester to Stark City.

Located on 86 Highway, Stark City is still an active community, serving local farmers and townspeople.
